In 1996 Ciba-Geigy and Sandoz - two companies with a rich and diverse corporate history merged & became Novartis, but the drug Ritalin was developed during the Ciba-Geigy days. O.K.? Now, find more 'wrong facts' in my blog. Go on, you adorable little instigator, you! Gosh darn it! I KNEW I needed a fact checker following me around...

THANK YOU!!!! Finding your blog (via Kari) is going to save my sanity (well, it may already be gone, who would know at this point?). Anyway, I have 6 adopted, 4 with some type of FASD and/or RAD, ADHD, Bi-polar, and on and on.... and life has become insane. I'm finding myself so isolated - self imposed of course, since I can't seem to trust anyone anymore. No one really gets it, they may try (or may not) but they can't possibly have a clue how sucked dry you are after an hour of craziness with these kids. Some of the things you said had me laughing, although my head was bobbing up and down in agreement 98% of the time. Some of my kids came home to me at VERY young ages and I still see so much of what you're experiencing - it has to be partially genetic, partially mental illness or drug exposure or SOMETHING that makes our kids so similar. I have one that I'm afraid is going to be a sociopath he's so detached from reality (yet so charming and innocent and victim-like) and like you, am keeping an eye on EVERYTHING to be sure he doesn't end up joining a cult or becoming a suicide bomber or something.

You are a great writer - I'm looking forward to reading more of your adventures from the institution - oops, I mean home!

Kari is a great unify-er! I am also an adoptive mom of three kids with alphabet soup acronyms. I also have a biological daughter who has mental health issues, so no matter which way I turn, I'm dealing with it! And Pepperidge Farm Raspberry Milano cookies help.

Well, I never adopted any of my children but I work as a child therapist now and I salute you all for the brilliant commitment you show to these kids. I know from the single hour I spend once a week with each damaged kid that to spend 24/7 with them marks you out as supermums whatever you might feel like in the 90% bad times. I definitely do 'get it' - don't give up! I'll be back to see how you're doing.

I had a foster daughter for 3 years that nearly drove me insane and yet we were still going through the process to adopt her (didn't work out...her choice...long story). Love wasn't what kept me going...it was my commitment to her...because dealing day in and day out w/ extreme behaviors will sap the love bank mighty quick.

We did adopt and although our daughter's issues are much more mild we still have attachment setbacks every now and then (behaviors that stem from ambivalent attachment) and one of the hardest things is the lack of understanding from those on the outside looking in. People just don't get it.

Hello! I see my blog buddies Kari and Torina beat me here! I found you through Kari's blog. I have 4 adopted kids, 2 through foster care, 1 from Honduras and 1 from Romania. I totally get what you say about the orphanages. Not fit for dogs. Three of my kids have a FAS diagnosis although only 2 are pretty severe. My 15 yr old daughter (Honduran) sounds like your Chuda. We've made it to 15 still intact, but barely. Stop by my blog whenever you have time! www.allcrazyhere.blogspot.com I love your writing!

Torina (GREAT name, by the way)
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment and share your sugary woes! You're SO right about those "rare, gushy moments" - when once upon a fleeting moment Geneva actually makes me laugh or does something endearing, that *must* be the fuel that keeps me plugged in. Because God knows, I'm runnin' on empty most of the time with her. I just wolfed down a brownie that was a tad too small to use tonight at our Relay For Life fund raising bingo. I mean, I wouldn't want to gyp someone be selling a shrinky-dink brownie, so I had to take care of it myself. :) I feel so much better. But now, all this talking about the fries - - - should I head that way? Again, I'm so glad you chimed in!! Blessings - Donna - Feisty Housewife headed for the drive-thru I fear.....

I love your honesty and humor. I, like Kari, am an adoptive mom of two kids with multiple diagnoses. I can relate too well to not lovin' every minute of motherhood. Those rare gushy moments suck me in and keep me in the game. Those crazy moments...90% of the time...maybe more...drive me to the sugar. And I am not using some slang word for drugs...I really do mean sugar. That is my drive-thru fry of choice. In fact, did you know that McDonald's puts sugar in EVERYTHING? I may jut stop there for lunch today. I have been up for 3.5 hours and three minutes and have not yet had a sugary snack of any kind. Not that i am counting...
